Excursion Van Rossum – Utrecht citytrip

May 14 @ 12:00 - 17:00
Van Rossum office Utrecht, Netherlands + Google Map

At Tuesday 14th of May we will visit our partner Van Rossum Raadgevende Ingenieurs. We will start with a visit and lunch at their recently opened office in Utrecht. Here a presentation will be given about both the new Hoog Catharijne Area and the Galaxy tower which is currently under construction. After the presentation we will actually visit the both projects. We will end the day together with a dinner. This complete activity (except the dinner) is free of charge…

Co-evolutionary Building Design Simulation for Structural Optimization with Facade Openings State-of-the-art MDO approaches mainly apply pareto frontiers and/or weighted sum methods for detailed optimization problems; nevertheless, these approaches can be too restricted for optimizing conceptual building design. Namely, these approaches start from the (implicit) assumption that design search spaces do not change over time; they cannot generate building design alternatives that were not defined prior to the start of the process. However, design requirements evolve and are not defined in…

Behavior of unreinforced concrete-to-concrete interfaces under shear loading The aim of this research is to re-evaluate which material parameters influence the adhesion shear transfer in an unreinforced concrete-to-concrete interface. The cause of this research is the partial collapse of the parking garage at Eindhoven Airport on the 27th of May 2017. This partial collapse was caused by the use of a two way spanning composite concrete floor, consisting of precast floor plates and a cast-in-situ compression layer, resulting in a…

Timber Reciprocal Frame Structures Reciprocal Frame (RF) structures are feasible by means of circulating compression  or  tension  interactions  between  their  constituent  members.  This  relation  indicates  that beam depths and connections correlate to an RFs’ structural geometry. Till date, a combination of RF form  finding  that  regards  both  beam  depths  and  structural  design  of  connections  has  not  yet  been developed. Although researchers developed computational form finding methods to create geometrical solutions and described the global structural design, computational complexity may have…
